AI, future-oriented solutions based on artificial intelligence technology

Artificial intelligence is poised to become a key technology in the process of shaping the  future of humankind. Though it has already been present in our lives for a long time, it is ubiquitous in today’s world. So what is artificial intelligence and where exactly can we meet it?

What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is defined as the ability of machines to perform tasks that have so far been reserved exclusively for humans. These include thinking, reasoning, learning, planning and performing creative processes.

Through technical systems created by humans, AI is capable of perceiving its environment, understanding it and coping with it. This also includes any problems it is faced with, which by means of its goal-oriented approach the machine is able to solve by itself.

Devices collect or receive pre-prepared data and then process it through their algorithms and react to it. Amid the  enormous technological progress, AI systems can adjust their behaviour to a certain level on their own. This is possible due to the analysis they perform based on the consequences of their previous actions, thus making their work to some extent autonomous.

What are the types of artificial intelligence?

Machines that use artificial intelligence technology can be divided into four types. This is the most popular classification so far, and it groups types of AI machines according to their most important characteristics.

Creative machines

It is the most basic form of artificial intelligence. Its main features include its failure to remember past events and its inability to use this information to optimise subsequent decisions. A good example of this type of machine is the IBM program that won a chess game against Garry Kasparov in the 1990s.

Limited memory machines

The second category that can be identified by the ability to use previous experience to make decisions in the near future. Although this is not information that is permanently stored in the machine’s memory, it is still impressive. Examples of this include some of the features of autonomous cars, as well as Siri, every Apple product user’s  favourite assistant.

Machines understanding theory of mind

Work on this type of artificial intelligence is still ongoing, but in essence it should be able to pull off incredible things. Understanding a machine’s emotions, thoughts, beliefs and expectations is expected to have a massive social impact. Currently, one of the most surprising achievements of the developers of this type of machine is, known to almost everyone, the Sophia robot.

Machines in full knowledge

It is the most developed form of AI. It simulates human reactions and behaviour almost seamlessly. Currently, however, none of the available solutions is advanced enough to fully meet this type of condition. Although research is still in progress to create a machine with full consciousness in the foreseeable future.

Examples of how artificial intelligence is used for business purposes today

Currently, artificial intelligence technology is so common that we are not even aware of its presence. It is mostly seen on the Internet as online shopping, online shops, advertisements, digital assistants. They are becoming an integral part of our daily lives.

Let’s just say that almost every element of the digital world relies on artificial intelligence algorithms to some extent. This makes it more and more advanced, reducing its visibility to humans in everyday life. That said, let’s move on to its key applications in entrepreneurship and banking.

AI covers general and industry-specific applications, such as:

● optimising prices based on customer preferences and behaviour on a website;

● using data (demographic and transactional) to predict customer spending during a relationship with a brand

● image recognition for analysing X-rays in the process of cancer diagnostics.

AI in business

It is safe to say that technology using AI systems increases the efficiency and productivity of a business. This happens by automating processes and tasks that used to require a lot of human involvement. It can also add meaning to data that is beyond human reach. A good example of AI usage within a company is Netflix, which rose to international fame a couple of years ago. It uses machine learning technology to provide a certain level of personalisation to the suggestions it displays.

AI in banking

AI’s capabilities have made it an almost essential element used for risk management in the banking sector. It enables both a better understanding as well as mitigation of the risks involved.

With the help of artificial intelligence, banks can assess a huge number of data points and quickly implement all the insights that help them guard against losses while increasing customer ROI. Therefore, they develop accurate data sets and risk models that are far more accurate than those created in standard statistical analysis.

Summary

Artificial intelligence has a huge impact on our daily lives. It appears in places where we do not expect it to exist. As a result, the frequency of our experience of self-learning machines is almost constantly increasing. Will our future be significantly changed by this? The answer is ‘yes’. Especially since we are already in the process of huge technological breakthroughs. But one may still wonder what else the future will bring in terms of artificial intelligence.
